The Vibration Meter Data Logger – Vibration Sentry E-16g is a new generation of smart data logger that can record acceleration, inclination, vibration and impacts. It includes a 3-axis +-16g MEMS accelerometer, an accurate date/time clock and a non-volatile 128 Mb recording memory. Depending on the settings it can record vibration signals and/or RMS levels for months. Its very small size allows it to be attached to or embedded within the monitored equipment.
The Vibration Meter Data Logger – Vibration Sentry E-16g is an all digital design with an integrated oscilloscope function that can show the vibration signals in real time, and an integrated spectral analyzer function that shows a 512-line spectrum in real time. It is self-calibrated using the earth’s gravity as a reference. An auto-rec feature allows the instrument to stay dormant for months, only recording when the acceleration signals are detected over an adjustable threshold.
The Vibration Sentry E includes the following features:
- A visual alarm on acceleration threshold.
- A timer that allows the instrument to start the Record or the AutoRec mode at a specified date and time.
- A new AutoRec implementation that performs the triggering in software with much greater precision. The new trigger provides at least 80 ms of pre-trig data.
- Management of Time Zones at the instrument level.
- Settings are retained through a reset.
The Vibration Sentry E series of vibration meter data logger is ideal to monitor shipments in transit and record adverse events such as shocks, high vibration levels and/or tilt. In order to do that properly, careful attention must be paid to the instrument’s configuration and installation.
The Vibration Meter Data Logger – Vibration Sentry E includes the following models:
- VS_E-16g: +-16g dynamic range with a 128Mb memory

Road Shipment Monitoring
Attach the VS E-16g to fragile equipment or high-value cargo and record shocks, vibration levels and tilt throughout the road journey. Auto-rec mode stays dormant until an event is detected — preserving battery and memory. Use the VS Shipping Advisor software to configure optimal settings for your shipment type.
Machinery Wear Monitoring
Mount the VS E-16g on machinery and continuously record vibration levels. The 512-line real-time spectrum analyzer helps identify frequency components associated with bearing wear, imbalance and misalignment. Months of recording capacity enable long-term trend analysis.
Fragile Equipment Transport
Monitor operation and road transport conditions of fragile, sensitive or high-value equipment. The VS E-16g records acceleration, vibration levels and inclination throughout the trip — providing objective evidence of handling conditions for insurance claims and quality assurance.
Real-Time Analysis & Diagnostics
Connect the VS E-16g via USB and use the real-time oscilloscope and 512-line spectrum analyzer to observe vibration signals live. Identify frequency components, diagnose mechanical faults and verify sensor placement — all directly in the free Instrument Manager software.
What is the Vibration Sentry E-16g best suited for?
The VS E-16g is ideal for road shipment monitoring and machinery wear diagnostics. Its ±16g range covers most road transport and low-to-medium amplitude vibration applications. For seismic monitoring, we recommend the VSEW mk4 8g with its lower noise floor and DIN4150-2 support.
How does the VS E-16g compare to the VSEW mk4 series?
The VS E-16g is USB-only with visual alarms and a lower price point. The VSEW mk4 series adds WiFi reporting, email alarms, velocity measurement, an open USB VCP protocol, DIN4150-2 support, and a 1024-line spectrum. Choose the VS E-16g when you need a compact, self-contained data logger at the best price; choose the mk4 when you need wireless connectivity or velocity data.
What software is included with the VS E-16g?
All Convergence Instruments software is free. The essential Instrument Manager handles configuration and data transfer. Optional tools include Wave Analysis, Speed & Displacement, Odometer, PPV Analysis, VS Response Spectrum, Instrument Disk Recorder, and the VS Shipping Advisor for shipment monitoring setup.
How long does the VS E-16g battery last?
The internal rechargeable Li-Poly battery lasts up to one year in Idle mode. While recording, autonomy ranges from 300 to 6,000 hours depending on settings. The battery recharges via USB in approximately 2.5 hours and supports over 300 charge/discharge cycles.
Can the VS E-16g be used for continuous long-term monitoring?
Yes. With 128 Mb of non-volatile flash memory, the VS E-16g can record 3-axis full statistics at 1-minute intervals for up to 2 years, or at 1-second intervals for 10 days. Data retention exceeds 20 years. The auto-rec mode is particularly useful for long deployments — the instrument stays dormant and only records when vibration exceeds an adjustable threshold, extending both battery life and memory capacity.
